After enjoying our cheddar and sour cream Ruffles and balsamic vinegar Caffe Nero Crisps, we were excited about the company’s attempt at combining a few flavors together. The valuable lesson learned was that any company can have both their good and bad, and unfortunately these were the latter.

Apparently it was decided at some point that simple cheddar chips were not enough and companies of all sizes offer combinations of my favorite cheese with all sorts of other flavors. Caffe Nero Chips, which are custom made for the cafe, really impressed us the first time around, but their cheddar and onion combination was very odd. The bag had an extremely strong cheddary odor, which had us eager to dive in, the tongue was decieved however because instead of cheddar, all we got was a very potent onion taste.

The onion taste was followed by a hint of cheddar and a pretty unpleasant aftertaste. Anyone who tried one seemed to react with the same reaction that comes with mixing tastes that don’t match, like ketchup and apples (that face you hopefully just made is it). Overall we put these in the unique category, its a more common flavor, but the way it was done in this case was not so great.

If you happen to be in a Caffe Nero at some point, go straight for the salt and balsamic vinegar, your mouth and nose will thank you.
