With their crunchy blast of zesty flavor in a bite-sized oval, Funyuns (not Funyons which I find myself saying) may be an OK snack for anyone who considers onion rings an upgrade over French fries at a restaurant. However, if you are looking for a nice onion’ey taste that lasts and doesn’t have an aftertaste that leaves you searching for a drink, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Perhaps the best compliment that I can pay Funyuns is that they are crunchy from the first bite to the last, which we have learned is not an easy thing to do. Most pieces are ring-shaped, like onion rings, though many in the pack are at least a little broken. The broken pieces are still tasty so unless you really love rings for some reason, it doesn’t affect the experience too much. Unfortunately, that is where my positive statements end.

Though the bag advertises the “zesty flavor of onion,” I would say it is more like the underwhelming and somewhat unpleasant aftertaste of artificial-flavoring. True, the first bite is quite zesty , however, shortly after I either had to pop another Funyun in my mouth to get the taste out or have a big gulp of water.

When it comes to crumbs, Funyuns only leave a few on the fingertips and even less on my shirt. They are not nearly as greasy as a Estrella Spring Onion and don’t even need a napkin or pant leg to clean up.

So would I recommend Funyuns? I suppose if your choice was that or 7-11 Louisiana Hot Sauce flavored Onion-flavored Rings then I would say yes. Otherwise, I would have to recommend that you pick a different munchie off the shelf. And this is coming from a real lover of onions!

You should also mention the capn crunch like damage to the roof of your mouth.

i love funyuns also. what i’ve found while browsing your blog is that the most plain varieties of snacks get the 5/5 reviews. lays bbq, sea salt chips, doritos nacho cheese.

reminds me a lot of music reviews. the most plain and boring albums get wild raves from critics. i never got that stuff

Pfft, your out of your mind.
Funyuns are the best chip left.
