When I was at BU, whoever they had a food partnership with always provided Miss Vickie’s Sea Salt chips at every catered  event.  They rarely had the flavored ones, and as a young college student sneaking in as many free meals as I could, I had about 200 too many of these kettle cooked chips and generally loved every minute. Now that I run a snack blog would I suggest them for real money?

Manufactured for Miss Vickie’s Brand, courtesy of snack supergiant Frito Lay the bag states that these chips are made from farm grown potatoes (which actually makes me wonder what constitutes a farm when it comes to something like a potato). The bag also states they are made in small batches and are cooked in a process longer than standard.

The bag itself is pretty full, especially compared to other snacks we’ve tried. Upon opening the bag the familiar salty smell brings me back. The chips are pretty thin but have a good crunch and leave a ton of salt and crumbs on your hand.  Many of the chips are also folded over each other which I actually enjoy because it gives you an even stronger crunch.

As far as taste goes, it seems with age and the ability to purchase snacks on my own, Miss Vickies Simply Sea Salted have lost some of their luster. The very large amounts of salt along with grease and crumbs make them very messy to eat. The salt taste is strong and decent but nothing particularly exciting.

Overall, these chips are definitely average. It’s no surprise to me that they are a popular catering food because they will appeal to most tastes. They are good enough to feel premium, but don’t really blow you away enough to think it’s a premium chip affair. In college snatching up as many bags as possible was fun and free so if you can get your hands on some bags that way, I suggest it :).  Miss Vickies Simply Sea salt are a safe snack most people will probably like, and simply that.
