Featuring a man weightlifting peppers, a cartoon character who looks like he was from the 60s and a logo surrounded by flames, Mr Chips have so far won the best bag ever contest here at Munchies Blog. Aside from the great bag, the chips were quite tasty and the original flavor ones did not even make it back from the trip (we ate them on the way). Luckily we also grabbed a bag of Mr. Chips Labneh flavored chips which had a taste that reminded me of home.

It was surprising to find so many types of Jordanian chips considering the snack isn’t particularly popular in the Middle East. Mr Chips are made in Jordan, and the Mr. Chips Labneh flavored chips were similar in texture and size to their plain flavored cousins. Whereas the plain actually had a bit of paprika sprinkled on them (a very nice addition I must say), the Labneh ones were very reminiscent of sour cream and onion chips and I think if you put them side by side, most people would not be able to tell the difference.

The Mr. Chips Labneh flavor had green onion flakes on them and as Labneh is a strained yogurt so it is not that surprising that the taste was similar. Why would this be surprising you ask? The bag made no mention of the green onion aside from the ingredients so we completely overlooked it as a possibility.

What was great about these chips was that they had a very nice crunch and the taste was light without being overly greasy. They are also made in Jordan, so we got them at their freshest and it was nice to enjoy local product in an age where most snacks are actually produced by a handful companies (of course this excludes many of the boutique chip companies that have popped up in the US).

As mentioned, the original flavor and Mr. Chips Labneh are best compared to Ruffles. They offer a nice balance of crunch and flavor, would go great with a sandwich or dip and the bag felt full. Although they are definitely better than an open paw smack to the face, when we compare these chips to most others we tried they fall along the middle. If you happen to live exclusively in Jordan then give yourself an extra grade as they are quite tasty and worth it.

We apologize that there are no original flavor pictures, but they look almost the same, minus green flakes, add red paprika.
