With no Cheddar to be found on the bag, Better Chip Sweet Onion and White Cheddar promise fresh sweet onions right on the front of the bag but welcome your senses with a medium cheddary odor. The bag itself wasn’t particularly full but would the flavor make up for it?
The first bite, similar to the first smell hits you with a nice, not sharp, cheddar flavor. It took me a few chips to really feel the sweet onion taste but it was noticeable at the end of most of them. Similar to the other Better Chips we tried, these ones featured real Onion which could easily be seen on the chips themselves. I guess seeing real cheese built in would probably be a bit disturbing but they definitely have the taste of something seasoned with my favorite cheese.
Each Sweet Onion and White Cheddar Better chip was light and enjoyable to eat, but unfortunately the taste wore off pretty quickly and the bag could have been a bit fuller. I would have liked a stronger onion flavor than the ones we tried as it does receive first billing in the title. The “light dusting” of seasoning is noticeable and does leave a little bit of residue on your hand, but much less than an average chip for sure.
We decided to give them an average rating because we were really looking forward to this unique combination of flavors and were left with a strong cheddar chip that gives you a slightly sweet finish at the end but does leave you wanting just a bit more.
