The bag of Dirty Mesquite BBQ is covered in text, like all the Dirty Chips flavors. At the end of the spiel is what counts, they are a “crunchier, tastier, potato chip.” These chips, almost as red as the bag they come in, had us excited as we prepared to have first bite.

Made in Louisiana, we assume dirty is the Cajun heritage coming through, aside from the name they are actually all natural and have premium ingredients with no artificial colors or flavors. The smell of the Dirty Mesquite BBQ Chips was mild, which was a hint of things to come. The Mesquite BBQ flavor was quite sweet, thanks to natural milled sugar cane and the taste had good life, without lingering for too long.

As far as kettle chips go, these felt a little thicker and were VERY crunchy, you could almost cut your mouth on the edges, but this didn’t stop us from greatly enjoying every one we had. The bag was also quite well packed, which is especially good considering these chips don’t come cheap. The one knock we had was that the mesquite flavor was very mild. I think in an attempt to not overwhelm, they went a bit too far the other way. Following the sweet you get a bit of a kick but it fades away too soon.

This is unfortunate as it is a great taste but was almost weak when you compare them to the bright red bag they come in. We would definitely recommend these chips as they do stand above many others, however, they just miss our highest mark because we were hoping for a bit more. If you do like your chips a bit milder, then this is the perfect choice for you.

Definitely try them, enjoy them alone or with a sandwich or even a light beer, they are just mild enough to be a great side without taking over whatever else you are enjoying.
