We’ve already reviewed several kettle cooked chips and talked about how they are usually much crunchier than standard chips. Lays Kettle Cooked Crinkle Cut Original chips, a brand new variety from Frito Lay, combines this delicious snack variety with “wavy” style chips and ends up producing possibly the crunchiest chip ever.

Lays Kettle Cooked Crinkle Cut Original Potato chips are the company’s foray into a snack that features all natural seasoning and potatos. The back of the bag promises “a louder kind of crunch thanks to small batches that are kettle cooked” and boy are they right. As each bite was “tested” the crunch was audible from a distance.

The first thing that came to my mind was that the Kettle Cooked Crinkle Cut potato chips would be great with a dip like salsa (or even homemade nachos and cheese) and it seems Lay’s was on the same track because they also state these chips “hold up to thick dips.” Probably about 1,000x thicker than standard Lays each one in our bag was in pristine condition and ready to be enjoyed alone or with your favorite chip dip.

As far as the flavor, the same salty and greasy feeling you get with Lay’s Classic is still prevalent with these ones, though their previously mentioned thickness gives a much more potato-y taste than the regular ones. This could be good or bad depending on your tastes, but I enjoyed the familiarity of taste.

Overall I would have to say these chips are an average snack worthy of trying if you want something as a side at a party or if you enjoy a chip with a tremendous crunch. Our big bag definitely felt full for the money which was a big plus. With dip these are delicious so if that’s your plan then bump em up a notch. They rolled these out with unique flavors for the east and west coast in the US so we will try to get our hand on those for review as soon as we can.
