Everyone loves a good BBQ and we’ve reviewed several different BBQ Chips and even barbecue pretzels at Munchies Blog. Naturally we enjoy getting a new variety of chips to try and when we got the bag of Wise BBQ potato chips I figured it would be pretty straightforward because we already tried their Honey BBQ variety and enjoyed them quite a bit. Unfortunately, our excitement ended with the red bag featuring a fire grill on the front.

As we mentioned in other Wise chips reviews, these chips are a cousin of Lay’s in terms of their texture and size. Thin and crispy they don’t leave as many crumbs as Lays, but they are definitely similar. When we cracked open the bag we didn’t get too strong of a smell, which for a barbecue chip is not the best sign.

The chips were red which indicates they are covered in seasoning and you could also see pepper sprinkled throughout each chip as well. The Wise BBQ flavor, however, was pretty lacking. It seems that Wise takes a different approach to these types of chips because their Honey BBQ flavor ones weren’t overly tomato-y either but they did offer more flavor than these ones did.

When you take your first bite of Wise BBQ chips you taste some of the pepper and salt followed by a bbq/ketchup flavor. The flavor dissipates pretty quickly leaving you wanting more. The problem with this is that even when you finish off the bag you feel like you want more BBQ flavor (although the taste does get stronger as you get to the bottom of the bag where the seasoning that fell off other chips is resting). They just never feel like they satisfy the BBQ promise so proudly displayed on the front.

We’ve penalized chips before for not being strong enough when they promise a BBQ taste (see Dirty Chips Mesquite) and simply have to again with these. Definitely give Wise’s Honey BBQ chips a try if you can, because Wise BBQ potato chips are boring by comparison.

You’re review is SO f****** true man, It tastes like s*** if you ask me. A best bet would be to get lays BBQ, tastes like pure awesome.

When I was younger I would buy them all the time and the had much better taste, more of a BBQ flavor and hotter in taste. I don’t know why they changed the seasonings. But they need to bring back the old seasonings because it does taste like regular potato chips with an occasional flavoring of BBQ.

They taste different. They seem to not have a much of a bbq taste. They use to taste so much better.

I opened a bag of wise BBQ chips took one bite was like wtf looked in the bag searched though all of the chips then threw them away! If I wanted regular chips (not BBQ) I would have bought them! I’ll never buy wise chips again!
